Kunio Hoshi murder: Death reference reaches HC

Staff Correspondent: The death reference of Japanese citizen Kunio Hoshi murder case reached the High Court (HC) on Tuesday.

High Court Deputy Registrar (Administration and Judicial) Azizul Islam confirmed the matter to risingbd.com on Tuesday evening.

The convicts are: Rangpur region military commander of JMB Masud Rana Mamun and its members Ishaque Ali, Liton Mia Rafiq, Shakhawat Hossain, and Ahsanullah Ansari Biplob.

According to the rules, if a lower court sentences any person to death in a case, its judgment is examined by the HC through hearing arguments for confirmation of the death sentence. The case documents and judgment reaches as death reference to the HC from the lower court in seven days after the latter delivers the verdict.

Earlier, on February 28, a Rangpur court sentenced five JMB militants to death for killing Kunio Hoshi in the district’s Kaunia upazila in 2015.
