Lightning strike kills six in Dinajpur

Staff Correspondent: At least six people including two women were killed in separate incidents of thunderbolt strike in Biral, Khanshama, and Chirirbandar area of the district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Kusho Chandra Roy, 17, son of late Haripad Roy, Banita Rani Roy, 17, wife of Pradip Chandra Roy, Meser Ali, 35, son of Abdul Latif, Sukur Uddin, 40, son of Mostak Ali, Halima Khatun, 23, wife of Shahidul Islam, Bidyananda Roy, 40.

Biral police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Majid said that a total of 12 labourers while they were taking rest in a hut this noon, leaving two of them dead on the spot and 10 other injured.

Later, the injured were sent to Dinajpur M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital where duty Kusho Chandra Roy and Banita Rani Roy died under treatment.

Earlier, Halima Khatun, 23, wife of Shahidul Islam of Chakrampur village in Chirirbandar upazila, was killed as a thunderbolt hit her while trying to go back her kitchen.

Chirirbandar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Haresul Islam confirmed the matter.

Besides, Bidyananda Roy, 40, son of Sottendranath Roy, also died on the spot after a thunderbolt hit him around 7:00am in Khansama upazila.
