Entertainment Desk: The physical condition of legendary singer-composer and freedom fighter Lucky Akhand, diagnosed with lung cancer, has now somewhat improved than before.

Mum Minti Akhand Noor, daughter of Lucky Akhand, confirmed the matter to risingbd.com.

On February 26, Lucky Akhand’s physical condition deteriorated. He could not recognise anybody. Later, he was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

He has been receiving treatment from the hospital for last 11 days.

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu and Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq visited the hospital to see the legendary singer-composer on Sunday afternoon.

Cancer was detected in Akhand's lung in September, 2015. He was later treated in a Thailand hospital when the freedom fighter-artist received financial help from the prime minister's fund. He was then given chemotherapy in Dhaka.

Akhand was a rage in the 1980s, when he doubled up as a singer, lyricist, composer and music director. His first album 'Lucky Akhand' was released by record label Sargam in 1984.

"Eiye Neel Monihar", "Amay Deko Na", "Ritiniti Jani Na", "Age Jodi Jantam" and "Sumona" are some songs of this album that made him famous.

A decade later, he hit the stage again in 1998 with two albums "Porichoy Kobe Hobe" and "Bitrishna Jibone Amar".
