Apu Biswas surrenders to court, gets bail

A Dhaka court has granted bail to actress Apu Biswas in a case lodged over alleged attempt to murder one Enamul Haque in the city's Vatara area during the July-August Mass Uprising.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mustafizur Rahman passed the order after the actress surrendered before the court and filed bail application with a bond of Tk10,000 on Sunday (July 13).

Apu Biswas appeared in the courtroom of the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court at 12:40pm. She then sat on the back row bench of the courtroom.

According to the case statement, Enamul along with other Anti-Discrimination Movement campaigners took to the street on July 19, 2024. Subsequently, shots were fired on the agitating people and Enamul got shot on his leg. He underwent treatment for his injuries and later filed the case against 283 people, including the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina. Apart from Apu Biswas, 16 other artists are named in the complaint in this case.
