Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has granted an interim bail to Tangail’s Awami League lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana in connection with freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case.
The court has also issued a rule asking why MP Rana should not be given a permanent bail.
The HC bench of Justice Md Miftah Uddin Choudhury and Justice ANM Bashir Ullah came up with the order and rule on Thursday.
Advocate Abdul Baset Mazumder stood for MP Rana while Deputy Attorney General Shaikh AKM Moniruzzaman Kabir represented the State in the court.
Earlier on March 30, the HC rejected a rule issued on the question of granting bail to Rana in the case. Later, Rana filed another bail petition with the HC again.
The bullet-hit body of freedom fighter Faruk, also a district AL leader, was found on January 18, 2013. Later, a murder case was filed in this connection. Police found evidence of involvement of Rana and his three brothers in the murder.
Rana, the AL lawmaker from Tangail-3 constituency, surrendered to a Tangail court on September 18 last year in connection with the murder case.
Rana and his three brothers have been expelled from the district AL on charges of various allegations.
