Man arrested with foreign currency

Staff Correspondent: Customs Intelligence arrested a man along with foreign currencies worth Tk 25,46,000 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday night.

The arrestee was identified as Osman Ali, hailed from Chittagong. The currencies include 1,10,150 Saudi Riyal, 1,580 UAE Dirham and 1,000 Oman Riyal.

Dr Mainul Khan, Director General (DG) of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Department, confirmed the news to risingbd on Tuesday.

According to Customs Intelligence, Osman was travelling by a Dhaka-Dubai flight of Bangladesh Biman (BG047).  Acting on tip off, Customs officials seized the currencies after checking his bag filled with clothes.

Later, Osman Ali confessed to bear the currencies in a bid to buy smuggle goods, the sources said.

The sources also said the arrestee has travelled seven times this year.
