Mashrafe for another chance to Rabbi

Sports Correspondent, From Chattogram: Fazle Mahmud Rabbi, who made his international debut with a duck against Zimbabwe in the first ODI in Mirpur on October 21, was returning the dressing room after practice at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Tuesday.

Though he was looking upset, he talked to reporters with smile. He came up about his first duck to the media men saying, “I hit the first three balls in front. The next ball was also on same line. But it turned something bouncer suddenly. I had to face it in back foot. Actually, I had nothing to do at the moment.”

The thirty-year-old got his expected chances to play with the national after a long 12-year domestic career. But he could not make it fruitful. He also failed to prove himself in the warm-up match against the visiting Zimbabwe. So, he feels tensed.

The second ODI of the third-match series will be held on Wednesday. It is uncertain whether he will get another chance to get room in the final squad.

However, massive changes brought to the plans of the team management. They do not want to justify any new player to examine in a single or two matches.

In the past, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Soumya Sarkar, Sabbir Rahman and Co got chances more than once. Captain Mashrafe stands by Rabbi for another chance.

He said, “I personally think Rabbi should get another chance. It is difficult to judge someone by a single match. If you asked why he was included to the squad? I will say it was a mistake. But after inclusion, I, off course, think he should be given another chance.”

“It will not be right to judge him by the single match. There is nothing to blame him by the ball made him to go. So, he deserves another chance. I would also expect to play the next match if I had been in place of Rabbi. I’m telling this placing myself on Rabbi’s position,” Masrafe added.

He, however, said the decision is not at his single hand, saying, “All’s decisions are important. There are selectors, team management. It is difficult to take decision with single hand in this connection. In near past, we backed up all players as much as possible. We had also no scope to enjoy luxury. We need to keep this in mind. I gave my full support to Rabbi for another chance as we backed up in past.”
