Staff Correspondent: Meat traders have backed off from their proposed strike from the first day of Ramadan after a meeting with the Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed.

In regular meeting at secretariat, the commerce minister urged the meat traders not to call any strike ahead of Ramadan. Responding to the call, the traders agreed to call off their proposed strike.

Earlier, meat traders threatened to go on work abstention from the first day of Ramadan if the government does not meet their demands including construction of a permanent cattle market in Dhaka South City Corporation.

Meat traders also alleged that meat prices have been on the rise, as the lessees force them to collect extra money for their animals.
