Staff Correspondent: Jamalpur-1 candidate from BNP tent M Rashiduzzaman Millat wouldn’t be able to participate in the upcoming national polls as the Supreme Court has upheld rejection of his candidacy.
A seven-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed “no order” on Millat’s appeal against a previous High Court order.
Previously, the Election Commission had allowed Millat’s candidacy, which was rejected upon the Awami League candidate’s challenge at the High Court.
A trial court sentenced Millat to seven years' imprisonment in a corruption case during the tenure of the military-backed caretaker government.
