Minor dies after falling from city Rickshaw during mugging

Staff Correspondent: A five-month-old baby fell off his mother’s lap and died when muggers tried to grab a bag off a running rickshaw in Doyaganj area of the capital on Monday morning.

The infant was Arafat, son of Shah Alam and Aklima Begum.

Sources said that Aklima Begum and her son Arafat were heading towards home from a relative's residence riding on a rickshaw in the early hours of Monday. Meanwhile, 2/3 snatchers grabbed a bag of mother Aklima and tugged. At one stage, the five-month-old baby fell down from her lap, leaving him critically injured.

Later, the critically injured baby was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead around 7:00am.

Bachchu Miah, in-charge of DMCH police outpost confirmed the matter.

Gendaria police station OC Mizanur Rahman said that he heard the matter. Investigation is underway in this regard, he added.
