Mirpur gunfight: 2 were involved in ASP Mizan murder

Staff Correspondent: The two persons who have been killed in Mirpur’s Rupnagar ‘gunfight’ were involved in the murder of ASP Mizanur Rahman.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of DB police (West division) Golam Motofa Russel confirmed the matter to risingbd on Wednesday morning.

The two persons were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with DB police in the capital’s Rupnagar area early Wednesday. The gunfight took place around 5.00am near the office of Water Development Board.

The deceased were identified as Jakir and Montu.

On information, DB police took position in Rupnagar area. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the miscreants opened fire, forcing the DB members to back fire that triggered a gunfight.

Later, two bullet-hit persons were rescued from the spot and they were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where duty doctors declared them dead.

DB police also recovered two pistols, some local weapons and a private car from the spot.

According to police, four suspects had dragged ASP Mizanur inside a car for a mugging but strangled him and dumped his body once they discovered his identity.

Rahman’s body was found with a cloth wrapped around his throat near the Birulia Bridge in Rupnagar on June 21.
