‘Mitu murder mystery to be revealed after arrest of Musa’

Staff Correspondent: Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Haque said, “Police are searching Musa, a suspect in the killing of police superintendent Babul Akhter`s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu. Mystery over the incident will be revealed when he is once arrested.”

The IGP made the comment while talking to newsmen at annual police sports event in the capital’s Mirpur on Monday afternoon.

Shahidul Haque said, “Babul Akhter is a former police officer. For this reason, he cannot be arrested. Besides, his arrest may hamper investigation into the incident. Investigation is underway. Persons involved in the killing will be brought to justice once the investigation ends."

Investigation officers found the name of Musa who used to work as a police source. So, law enforcers are working to nab him, he added.

On June 5, 2016, bike riding assailants waylaid SP Babul’s wife Mitu at OR Nizam Road near GEC intersection in the city while she was going to board her son to his school bus from their residence.

Later, they stabbed and shot Mitu to death and fled from the spot.

Babul filed the murder case which the Detective Branch (DB) of CMP is investigating at present.
