Cox's Bazar Correspondent: A top terror and drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ at Pahari area of Shaplapur union under Moheshkhali upazila in the district on Monday noon.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Malek, 40, son of late Bashir Ahmed.
Prodip Kumar, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Moheshkhali police station said the incident took place around 12:00pm. Acting on a tip-off, the law enforcers conducted a drive in the area. Meanwhile, sensing presence of police, terrorists opened fire aiming police forces. In reply, police also opened fire.
At one stage, police found bullet-injured Abdul Malek in the spot and sent him to Moheshkhali upazila health complex where duty doctor declared him dead.
Five guns, ten rounds of bullets and 500 pieces of Yaba pills were also recovered from the spot, OC added.
