Momin murder: 2 persons' death penalty upheld

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has upheld the trial court’s death sentences for two people and life in prison for six others in Kamrul Islam Momin murder case.

The High Court bench of Justice Bhabani Prasad Singha and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam passed the verdict on Thursday noon.

The convicts are Shakhawat Hossain Jewel and Tareq alias Zia.

Deputy Attorney General Dr Bashirullah, Assistant Attorney General Bashir Ahmed and Nirmal Kumar Das stood for the state.

On September 13, 2005, Dhaka Commerce College student Momin was killed in front of his home in the capital’s Kafrul area. Later, in 2011, the trial court awarded the death penalty to three people and sentenced to life six others.

On December 22, 2015, the prime suspect and death row convict, former officer-in-charge of Motijheel Police Station AKM Rafiqul Islam died in prison.
