Mother fishes release eggs in Halda

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: Mother carp fishes have started releasing eggs in the River Halda, the country’s only natural breeding ground of carps.

Confirming the matter, Hathazari upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Ruhul Amin said, mother fishes started spawning at various points on the Halda River.

Spawning indigenous sweet water species of mother fishes started releasing their eggs in the Halda River this morning following heavy rain on Friday night.

The hundreds of fishermen were seen waiting to collect the eggs.

All kinds of preparations have been taken to preserve the released eggs, UNO Ruhul Amin added.

The Halda River is considered one of the world's major natural sweet water breeding spots of carps which originated from Butuntali Hill of the Chattogram Hill Tracks and entered into the city through Fatikchhari.
