Staff Correspondent: After six years of construction, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated the last section of the Mouchak-Moghbazar flyover in Dhaka.

The Mouchak, Rajarbagh, Shantinagar, Malibagh and other sections of the flyover have now been opened to the public.

The flyover construction was completed in three phases. The first section ran from Satrasta-Moghbazar-Holy Family Hospital, the second through Shantinagar-Malibagh-Rajarbagh and the final section from Bangla Motor-Moghbazar-Mouchak.

The first section was opened to traffic by the prime minister on March 30, 2016.

The project was originally scheduled to start in 2011 and completed by December 2015, but it started in 2013.

In January 2015, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council approved a revision of the project with an extension of 18 months till June 2017.  Though the cost of the project was initially estimated at Tk 7.72 billion, it grew steadily to Tk 11.35 billion.

The scheme was financed jointly by the Saudi Development Fund, OPEC Fund for International Development and the Government of Bangladesh.

India-Bangladesh joint venture Simplex Navana Joyti, China’s Metallurgical Construction Overseas Company and Toma Constructions implemented the project.
