Moulvibazar train crash: Two nursing college students die

Staff Correspondent, Sylhet: At least four people were killed as the intercity train ‘Upaban Express’ derailed at Baramchal under Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar on Sunday midnight.

Three of the deceased were identified and among them two were third year students of Sylhet Nursing College. They are Fahmida Yesmin Eva and Sanjida.

Another deceased is Monoara Parvin, 55, daughter of Cherag Mia at Maijgaon Shekhertila village under Fenchuganj upazila.

Principal of Sylhet Nursing College Foisal Ahmed Chowdhury confirmed the matter.

Fahmida’s body was taken to Abdullahpur village under Jalalpur in South Surma upazila and Sanjida’s body was taken to Kulaura upazila by a college ambulance.
 

The accident took place around 11:45pm on Sunday. The location of the accident is adjacent to Kala Miar Bazar and only 200 yards away from Baramchal Railway Station.

Sources said that the Dhaka-bound train, coming from Sylhet, veered off the tracks and four compartments of the train fell into the canal and one of them overturned, leaving four people dead.
