Mymensingh gunfight kills one

Staff Correspondent, Mymensingh: A suspected drug peddler was killed and two police men injured in a gunfight with detectives in Charpuliamari area of Shambhuganj in Mymensingh Sadar upazila early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Sumon Mia, son of Suruj Driver, hailed from Kalibari of the district town. He was a listed drug peddlers in the district, according to police.

Shaha Kamal Akanda, officer-in-charge of District DB police said that tipped off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police conducted a drive in the area area around 1:45am. Meanwhile, sensing presence of the policemen, the drug traders opened fire on them forcing the law enforcers to fire back in self-defense.

Later, police found bullet-hit Sumon in the spot and sent him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where duty doctors declared him dead.
