Nation to observe one-minute blackout on March 25 night

Secretariat Correspondent: The nation will observe a one-minute blackout across the country on March 25 night, marking the Mass Killing Day.

The blackout will be observed from 9:00pm to 9:01pm on the night.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal came up with the announcement to the reporters after emerging from a meeting with the law enforcement agencies at Secretariat on Sunday noon.

The meeting was arranged on the occasion of the Mass Killing Day and Independence Day at the conference room of Home Ministry.

Home Minister said, “We decided to observe a symbolic blackout programme across the country for a minute, from 9:00pm to 9:01pm, on March 25 marking the Mass Killing Day. We are going to take steps to observe the programme properly. But emergency establishments will remain out of the purview of the programme.”

In reply to a query Asaduzzaman said, “The government will not switch off electricity. We people will do it everywhere respectively. To encourage people, advertisements will be published on TVs, radios and newspapers. Alongside, messages will be served on mobile phone in this regard. Massive security steps will also be taken on the occasion.”
