National Mass Killing Day

March 25, 1971, a black day in the history of Bangalee nation. Pakistani military conducted a cowardly attack on innocent sleeping Dhaka people. Avoiding peaceful solution, president Yahya sent his Pakistani military junta to implement their blueprint to kill Bangalees.

The Paki forces mercilessly killed Bangalees on that night. The killers started barbaric killing at Razarbagh police line, Pilkhana, East Pakistan Rifles, Dhaka University.

In the attack dubbed 'Operation Searchlight' Pakistani occupation forces arrested undisputed leader of Bangalees Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from his Dhanmondi residence. On the eve of March 26, the father of the nation declared the independence of Bangalees. And the freedom loving people joined the struggle of independence.

Killing unarmed, innocent people, the barbaric Pakistani killers could not stop the voice of freedom loving people. The mass killing on that night inspired Bangalees to fight for freedom.

Banglaees got general election in 1970 following some inspirational steps like language movement in 1952, six points of 1966 and mass revolt in 1969. Awami League achieved Landslide victory in that election in 1970. But, the Pakistani military junta did not accept the opinion of the people. The rulers started wasting time and conspiracy showing excuses. At one stage, the military forces began mass killing on March 25.

Although, the declaration of independence announced on March 26 but, the main theme of independence came from Race Course ground (Suhrawardi Udyan) in Dhaka on March 7.

The speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman triggered the whole nation to fight for independence. His speech, "Ebarer Songram Amader Muktir Songra, Ebarer Songram Amader Swadhinatar Songram' inspired the Bangalees. Heroic Bangalees protested against the armed military and fought to get flag of independence.

The long-awaited freedom came nine months later though bloody fighting of freedom fighters. The whole Bangladesh was divided into Eleven Sectors under Sector Commanders. And finally the nation got their desired victory on December 16. Bangladesh was born as free and sovereign state in the world map.

The 25 in this year brought a different message to the nation. The cabinet accepted a resolution to observe March 25 as the Mass Killing Day.

The nation observed the day as 'National Mass Killing Day for the first time after 46 years of achieving independence. Bangladesh sent an application to the United Nation (UN) seeking recognition of March 25 as International Genocide Day. The government will start diplomatic promptness to get the recognition. We offer deep respect to all of them who sacrificed their lives on March 25.
