National polls-schedule on November 4

Staff Correspondent: The schedule for national elections is likely to be announced on November 4.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) K M Nurul Huda will announce the polls-schedule through a speech at Bangladesh Television.

EC sources said a letter was sent to Bangladesh Television (BTV) asking to take necessary preparation for recording of the CEC's speech as he would address the nation on the day.

Before announcing the election schedule, the CEC and other election commissioners will hold a meeting with the President at Bangabhaban at 4:00pm on November 1. During the meeting, the Election Commission will inform the President about the preparation ahead of the national parliamentary elections.

As per the constitution, general elections must be held within the 90-day period before the expiry of the five-year tenure of the current Parliament.  So, the next general election has to be held between October 30 and January 28.
