‘Nat’l growth without development of agriculture is not possible’

Secretariat Correspondent: Putting emphasis on the importance of the new agri-technology, high-yielding seeds and agricultural inventions, President Abdul Hamid said national growth without the development of agriculture is not possible.

The President issued a statement in this regard on Monday on the occasion of ‘Agriculturist Day' to be observed tomorrow.

"Mainly agriculture, farmers and agriculturists are interlinked . . . The new agri-technology, high-yielding seeds and agricultural inventions are helping the country to meet the food demand of 16 crore people," Hamid said.

Recalling the initiatives taken by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for the development of the agricultural sector, the President, in his message, said Bangabandhu gave agriculturists first class status on the day in 1973, including modernising the sector.

Hamid also said against the backdrop of modern human civilization, national growth without the development of agriculture is not possible here.

Production of other agricultural goods, including fish, meat, egg and milk, have also been boosted, Abdul Hamid said, hopping that the agriculturists and agri-scientists would contribute to build hunger and poverty free Sonar Bangla' dreamt by Bangabandhu.

Congratulating the recipients of KIB Krishi Award 2017 and 2018, the President said, "I believe that this recognition will further inspire them (agriculturists) to work for the development of the agriculture sector".

Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) has chalked out elaborate programmes to observe the Agriculturist Day in the city tomorrow.

The programmes include rally, Pitha (cake) festival, discussion and handover of KIB Krishi Padak.

On the occasion, President Abdul Hamid wished all programmes of the day a success.
