Nayeem hits world record on test debut

Staff Correspondent: Bangladesh’s Nayeem Hasan hit a world record on his debut against the West Indies during their first Test match as the 17-year old off-spinner took five wickets at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium Friday.

His bowling figure read 14-2-61-5 after the first Windies innings.

Nayeem broke the record of Australia’s Pat Cummins who took five wickets against South Africa in 2011 at the age of 18 years and 193 days.

Nayeem’s official age is now 17 years and 356 days, meaning the youngster is now in the record books of Test cricket.

Bangladesh also boast the world record of the youngest Test centurion as Mohammad Ashraful scored a hundred on debut against Sri Lanka in 2001 in Colombo at the age of 17 years and 61 days.

And so, both the records of the youngest Test centurion and the youngest to take a Test five-for belong to Bangladesh now.
