Nepal plane crash: CID collecting DNA sample to detect bodies

Staff Correspondent: Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have called the relatives of Bangladeshi people,who were killed in a tragic plane crash at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu of Nepal, to collect DNA sample to detect the bodies, according to sources.

However, Assistant Superintendent of CID (media) Sharmin Jahan said on Friday that she was not aware of whether the relatives have been called.

She said, “It is weekend on Friday. I can tell details in this regard on Sunday.”

CID sources said relatives of two plane crash victims reached DNA lab of CID’s Malibag office around 5:30pm on Friday. But they were not immediately known whose relatives they were.

Relatives will come to CID office from Sunday as Friday is holiday. In this case, it will be better if the sample providers are the victims’ parents or siblings.

The victims who are not being identified easily, blood sample of their relatives will be matched to ascertain them. Later, the bodies will be handed to the respective families.

At least 50 people including 26 Bangladeshis were killed as an aircraft of US-Bangla Airlines- with 67 passengers and four crews on board- crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport at Kathmandu in Nepal on Monday.

The airliner crashed after making an unexpected turn in cloudy weather as it came in to land at the airport in Nepal's capital.
