New Year should bring peace, success

Another year has passed away. A new milestone has been setup on the way of limitless journey. Skipping the previous flaws, the journey of 2018 has started with new dream and desires.

According to the Gregorian calendar, January 1 is being celebrated as New Year across the globe. People try to make plan to pass the upcoming new days through a dreamy way ahead of New Year. Not only the personal life but also the state has an expectation centering the New Year.

The last year has gone through some mentionable achievements. Bangladesh created a unique example providing shelter to Myanmar's oppressed Rohingya people. The historic 7th March speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). The fish hilsa has been recognized as the geographical indication (GI) product of Bangladesh. UNESCO recognized art of handcrafted Shital Pati as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The first nano-satellite made by a private university has launched into the space. Padma Bridge becomes visible as first span installed. Bangladesh moved a step closer to becoming the nuclear power-generating country. The much-awaited four-lane Dhaka-Chittagong highway and many positive achievements were seen in last year. Bangladesh was praised across the globe giving shelter to Rohingyas.

In international arena, the most discussed issue was- USA recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. However, the USA became almost isolated over Trump's recognition of Jerusalem. Besides, United States President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. would cease all participation in the Paris Agreement on climate change mitigation. And the Korean nuclear, missile activities and US-North Korea threats issue was in discussion in the whole year.

The past 2017 was also a year of misery for Bangladesh. Boro crops were hampered due to flash flood. The country faced food crisis. Many people died due to landslide in Chittagong. A huge number of Rohingya people entered into Bangladesh to save their lives from Myanmar military. Bangladesh faced a serious crisis following the issues. On the other hand, several types of irregularities including Bangladesh Bank reserve heist were another issue here.

The time will say - what will be the overall situation in New Year. But, we hope that the government, political parties and concerned all will make the New Year meaningful using their good sense. The 1th parliamentary election is scheduled to hold by 2018.  People expect all parties will take part in the polls. And the polls will free, fair and neutral way. However, positive wish is needed in this regard. In this case, the government has major responsibility.

We hope that Bangladesh will move forward with new hope and aspiration leaving old drawbacks. The New Year should be peaceful, delightful and prosperous. New success and betterment will come in the New Year. Happy New Year to our all readers, writers and well-wishers.
