N'ganj 7-murder: HC verdict Aug 13

Staff Correspondent: The High Court (HC) has fixed August 13 for its order over the appeal petitions and death reference in the sensational Narayanganj seven murder case.

The bench of Justice Bhabani Prasad Singh and Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam passed the order after hearing completed in the case on Wednesday.

Lawyer Mansurul Haque Chowdhury along with SM Shahjahan and Md Ahsan Ullah moved for the accused while Deputy Attorney General AKM Zahid Sarwar Kazal and Assistant Attorney General Bashir Ahmed represented the state in the court.

Earlier on July 19, Attorney General (AG) Mahbubey Alam concluded arguments for the state in the sensational murder case.

AG prayed to the High Court to uphold the trial court verdict that sentenced 26 people, including 16 former Rapid Action Battalion men, to death and jailed nine others for various terms for killing seven people in Narayanganj in April, 2014.

The brutal, diabolic and gruesome incident of murder was committed in a pre-planned way without any provocation from the victims, he said, adding that death is the appropriate sentence for them.
