No VAT on remittance: NBR

Staff Correspondent: No Value Added Tax (VAT) has been imposed on remittance in the proposed budget for 2018-19 fiscal year. It is just a rumour spread out on social media, According to the National Board of Revenue (NBR).

The rumour might be spread out to send money via hundi– an under the radar money transferring system, stopping remittance flow to the country, the NBR said.

Sayed MA Mumen, Senior Public Relations Officer (PRO) of NBR, confirmed the news to risingbd on Wednesday.

He said, “It is being spread out on social media that VAT has been imposed on remittance. It’s completely false and rumour.”

He also urged Bangladeshis living abroad not to pay heed to any rumour.

Later, NBR also sent an official press statement to media houses, ruling out any possibility of imposing VAT on remittance.
