Staff Correspondent: No decision was made yet to defer the schedule of the upcoming 11th parliamentary election, said Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed.
The EC secretary said this while briefing reporters after a meeting of the Jatiya Oikyafront leaders with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon area of Dhaka on Monday evening.
“Jatiya Oikyafront leaders have requested the EC not to announce the polls schedule now as they are scheduled to hold another dialogue with the Prime Minister on November 7,” Helal Uddin Ahmed said.
Asked whether there is any possibility to defer the polls schedule, the EC secretary said, “It can’t be said at this moment. A decision to this end will be taken at a Commission meeting which is scheduled to be held at 10:00am on November 8.”
