No more removal of sculptures in future: Quader

Staff Correspondent, Narayanganj: Referring to the demand of Hefajat-e-Islam in removing sculpture from across the country, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the sculptures established to uphold the spirit of the Liberation War have no connection with the one of the Supreme Court.

There is no plan to remove the sculptures connected to the spirit and memory of the Liberation War in 1971, he said.

The minister came up with the opinion while replying to reporters after the inspection of activities relating to the removal of traffic jam and road expansion of Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet highways on Saturday noon.

The Minister said the existing sculptures will not be removed rather more sculpture will be built with government funding in the country. The government remains adamant and steadfast in this regard.

A direction has been given to remove illegal structures and parked trucks near the highway to curb sufferings of people ahead of Eid, he said.
