No quota in public services: PM

Desk Report: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced to scrap the existing quota system in the public service recruitments.

She said, “The quota system will be abolished as the students do not want it.”

The Premier came up with the announcement during the question-answer session in the Parliament amid demonstration protests by jobseekers and university students across the country against the quota system.

PM said, “If there is a quota then the question of reformation will come. If it is reformed now, another group will take to the streets to reform it again in future. The problem is the quota system. So, there is no necessary for quota. The quota system is excluded and that is my clear statement.”

The parliament leader said, “There is quota for districts. But now the students of district-level universities are also against the quota system. So, I’m announcing that no quota will be exist. All recruitments will be happened on merit basis.”

“Female students also took the streets. They also do not want quota for themselves. So what is the need to have a quota system? We will make a special arrangement for ethnic minorities and physically challenged people in the public service recruitment system.”
