No refugee status for Rohingyas, says Amu

Secretariat Correspondent: The president of cabinet committee on law and order, also Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu said the government has no plan to consider refugee status for Rohingya people who fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar.

He said though government is providing all facilities to Rohingya people, but it has no plan to give them refugee status.

The Minister told this to the reporters after emerging from a meeting of the cabinet committee on law and order in the Home Ministry conference room at Bangladesh Secretariat on Sunday.

Till now, an estimated 4.5 lakh Rohingya people entered Bangladesh who are staying in 12 camps. More Rohingyas are also coming every day. The government has taken a plan to increase number  camps so that they (Rohingya) cannot scatter across the country.  Registration process has already been started to know the real number of Rohingyas who fled to Bangladesh, he added.
