‘No release from jail until Khaleda gets bail in Comilla case’

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam

Staff Correspondent: Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia could not get release from jail until she secures bail in a case filed for arson attack in Comilla during the anti-government movement by BNP-led 20-party alliance in 2015.

He said this while replying to a query of journalists at his Supreme Court office on Tuesday.

Mahbubey Alam said, “A custody warrant has been issued against Khaleda Zia in Comilla sabotage case that means she is also jailed in that case. There is no chance to get release from jail until she secures bail in that case.”

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the state filed two petitions seeking a stay order on the bail granted by the High Court (HC) to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. The Chamber court heard the both sides. The full bench of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday will hear the petitions filed by the ACC and the state against the HC verdict that granted bail to BNP Chief Khaleda Zia, he said.

On February 3, 2015, a case was filed with Chauddagram Police Station in Comilla after seven people were killed and 25 others were injured in a petrol bomb attack on a bus.

The law enforcers submitted the charge sheet of the case to a Comilla court accusing Khaleda and the others on March 2 last year.

The court issued the order hours after Khaleda Zia secured four-month bail in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
