No scope to defer announcement of polls schedule: CEC

Staff Correspondent: Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda has said that there is no scope to defer the announcement of election schedule.

The CEC said this while addressing a programme at capital’s Agargaon around 11:30am on Tuesday.

In reply to a query, he said, the upcoming general election can be delayed if all political parties want but there is no scope to defer the announcement of election schedule.

The CEC said, “Oikyafront leaders said that they are scheduled to hold a meeting with the Prime Minister, we will take into consideration the motive of November 7.”

Following the BNP’s constitution issue, he said, “We will follow the direction of the court.”

When asked about the use of Electric Voting Machines (EVMs) in the polls, the CEC said, “EVMs will be used in urban areas.”

Electoral Training Institute (ETI) Director General Mostafa Faruq presided over the programme where director Farhad Hossain and other officials attended the function.
