‘No technical glitch, it’s an accident’

Staff Correspondent: “There were no technical glitches in the aircraft of US-Bangla Airlines that crashed at Kathmandu in Nepal. It was just an accident,” said Md Kamrul Islam, general manager of marketing support and public relation of US-Bangla Airlines on Monday.

He said this while briefing reporters at the corporate office of US-Bangla Airlines in the capital’s Baridhara area hours after the crash incident.

Kamrul Islam said, “In last three years, the US-Bangla Airlines operated 36,000 flights without facing any technical glitch. There were no technical glitches in this aircraft. It’s an accident. The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (Caan) is working to find out the reason behind the crash. Black box of the aircraft has already been recovered.”

Imran Asif, chief executive officer (CEO) of US-Bangla Airlines, said 16 passengers, who were on board during the crash, were rescued alive.

A Bangladeshi airliner with 71 people on board crashed on Monday while coming in to land at the Tribhuvan International Airport in the Nepali capital, Kathmandu, killing at least 50 people.

Of the 71 people on board, 33 of the passengers were Nepali, 32 were Bangladeshi, one was Chinese and one from the Malaysia. Besides, there were two pilots and two crew in the aircraft.
