Non-MPO teachers call off strike

Staff Correspondent: Teachers and employees of non-MPO educational institutions called off their hunger strike on Wednesday, following an assurance from the government.

They broke their month-long consecutive fasting by taking water offered by national professor Professor Anisuzzaman and former caretaker government adviser Rasheda K Chowdhury in front of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital around 3:10pm.

Later, Prof Anisuzzaman said, “Your movement has a logic for which you have been fasting for long-days in the open sky. Prime Minister gave a speech during the parliament sessions over the issue. We hope the matter would be resolved soon. But it should also be kept in mind that the nation could not face any loss due to your movement.”

Golam Mahmudunnabi, president of Non-MPO Educational Institutions Teachers' and Employees' Federation, confirmed the news.

He said, “A delegation on behalf of non-MPO teachers and employees called on the Education Minister at the Secretariat around 11:00am on Wednesday. The Minister assured us for a heart and soul attempt to meet our demands by the government very soon. Prime Minister is also aware of the matter. And that’s why, we called off the movement.”
