Nusrat murder: Moksud was absconding after incident

Staff Correspondent, Chattogram: Acting Secretary of Sonagazi municipality unit of Awami League and ward councillor Moksud Alam was absconding after the incident of setting fire to Feni Madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi, police said.

Additional Police Super of PBI Feni unit ASP Md Moniruzzaman told the correspondent over mobile phone that Moksud Alam was arrested around 10.00pm on Thursday from a hotel in Dhaka city. He is accused in the killing of Nusrat Jahan Rafi case.

After a five-day battle for her life, Nusrat succumbed to her burn injuries around 9:30pm on Wednesday at the burn unit of DMCH.

The victim, who suffered 75 percent burns to her body, was put on life support at the burn unit of the DMCH on Monday noon as her condition deteriorated.

Nusrat had accused Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa Principal Sirajuddoula of sexually harassing her.

The principal was arrested on March 17 and subsequently suspended.

The victim, a resident of Sonagazi Municipality in Feni, went to the local Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa on April 6 to sit for Alim exams, equivalent to Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC).

Some students loyal to the principal called her to the roof and threatened her to withdraw the case. They set fire to her after pouring kerosene on her when she refused to withdraw the case.
