Nusrat’s autopsy conducted, body handed over to family

Staff Correspondent: The body of Feni Madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi has been handed over to her family after autopsy at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

A three-member medical panel conducted the autopsy of Nusrat Jahan Rafi from 11.15am to 12.00pm on Thursday.

DMCH Forensic Medicine Department physician Pradip Biswas, who is a member of the panel, confirmed the matter.

Later around 12.30pm, the DMCH authorities handed over the body to her family.
Her namaz-e-janaza will be held after Asr prayer at Sonagazi Md Saber Government Pilot High School playground. Later she will buried at her family graveyard at Uttar Charchandia village, family sources said.

After a five-day battle for her life, Nusrat succumbed to her burn injuries around 9:30pm on Wednesday at the burn unit of DMCH.

The victim, who suffered 75 percent burns to her body, was put on life support at the burn unit of the DMCH on Monday noon as her condition deteriorated.

Nusrat had accused Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa Principal Sirajuddoula of sexually harassing her.

The principal was arrested on March 17 and subsequently suspended.

The victim, a resident of Sonagazi Municipality in Feni, went to the local Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa on April 6 to sit for Alim exams, equivalent to Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC).

Some students loyal to the principal called her to the roof and threatened her to withdraw the case. They set fire to her after pouring kerosene on her when she refused to withdraw the case.

Police and others rescued her after hearing her cry and took her to Sonagazi Upazila Health complex from where she was shifted to the Feni General Hospital before transferring to the DMCH.
