OMS rice sale begins

Staff Correspondent: The government began selling rice at Tk 30 per kilogram to the low-income people in all divisional and district towns under the Open Market Sale (OMS) programme from Monday morning.

Although, the sale was scheduled to begin on Sunday but the program started from  Monday.

Under the programme, flour is being sold at the rate of Tk 17 per kilogram.

Sources from food directorate said that the dealers could not submit money due to holyday of Friday, Saturday. As a result, rice and flour were not supplied in time. But, the programme is running in full swing from Monday.

Earlier, on Thursday, Food Minister Advocate Qamrul Islam said that OMS programme will begin from March 4 and will continue until the harvesting of Boro crops.
