Senior Correspondent: Alleging that the Election Commission (EC) is not taking any step for the attacks on BNP leaders and activists during election campaign, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed apprehension about fair polls.
He came up with the fear while addressing a rally organized by Jatiya Oikyafront in front of BNP's Naya Paltan central office in the capital on Sunday on the occasion of the 48th Victory Day of the country.
Fakhrul said, “Today we are panicked whether democracy will be restored in the country, the existing Commission will be able to ensure a fair election and our Chairperson Khaleda Zia will be released. This election is very crucial for the people of our country.”
“This election will decide whether there will be democracy and freedom of expression in the country,” he added.
He alleged that the government is unleashing attacks on opposition candidates and leaders shamelessly.
Urging the government to stop carrying out attacks on his party men and alliance leaders, the BNP leader said, “Attacks and false cases cannot refrain them from participating in the national election slated for December 30.”
