Oikyafront to join elections

Senior Correspondent: Jatiya Oikyafront decided to participate in the upcoming 11th parliamentary polls as part of its movement to restore democracy. The alliance also demanded the deferment of the current election schedule by one month.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir came up with the declaration while addressing a press conference at National Press Club in the capital on Sunday.
Mirza Fakhrul was reading a written statement, on behalf of Jatiya Oikyafront's key leader and Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain.
Dr Kamal Hossain, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rab) President ASM Abdur Rab, Krishak Sramik Janata League President Abdul Kader Siddique, Nagarik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Barrister Moudud Ahmed and top leaders of the alliance attended the programme.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “The minimum demand of level playing field for the sake of fair election is not met yet. The election scheduled has been announced already. But various electronic media including Bangladesh Television (BTV) are campaigning on development activities of the government which is a clear violation election code of conduct.”
"Despite extreme adverse situation, Jatiya Oikyafront has decided to participate in the election as part of the movement for restoration of democracy," he added.
