One killed in Mirpur ‘gunfight’

Senior Correspondent: A man was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Matikata area of the city on Tuesday midnight.

The deceased, identified as Shafiqul, was a listed criminal in Narsingdi, the elite force claimed.

According to the message sent to media on Wednesday morning, the gunfight took place around 11.45am.

RAB also arrested two associates of Shafiqul. Three firearms and a number of bullets were recovered from the spot.

According to sources, a team of RAB raided the attic of a high-rise building after being tipped off about Shafiqul’s location.

Shafiqul and his two associates opened fire as soon as Rab reached the spot, triggering a  gunfight. Shafiqul, wounded in the gunfight, was taken Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
