Online media must be registered under policy

Parliament Correspondent: Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said all the online new portals have to be registered under the policy.

The minister said this while replying to a query of opposition Jatiya Party lawmaker Nasrin Jahan Ratna during the parliament session on Monday.

“Online media have been widely boosted in the country. Now the number of internet users is more than 8 crore which was 40 lakh in 2008. There are a few thousand online newspapers in the country. We are making online policy,” Mahmud said.

“We are making the policy of online (news portals). The news portals will be brought under the policy for registration once the policy is passed at the cabinet,” he added.
