Only EC to decide over deploying army: CEC

Staff Correspondent: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said it is EC which will take the decision whether army to deploy during the election.

"We will not deploy army during the election depending on someone's demand," he said.

Nurul Huda made the comments during the round of discussion with journalists of the electronic media at the Election Commission’s Agargaon office on Thursday noon.

He said, "Deploying army will totally depend on situation. If we do not think necessary, army will not be deployed. The decision should be left for EC totally."

In reply to a query, CEC said, "EC will not mediate between political parties."

He said, "It is not the duty of the Election Commission to mediate between political parties. We will not go to anybody. We are an independent body."
