PM donates Tk 20cr to journalists’ welfare trust fund

Secretariat Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina donated Taka 20 crore to the fund of the Bangladesh Journalists’ Welfare Trust.
The prime minister handed over the cheque of the donation to the leaders of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) at a function at her Gonobhaban residence here on Thursday.
PM’s media advisor Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, State Minister for Information Tarana Halim, Information Secretary Abdul Malek, President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Mollah Jalal, Managing Director and Chief Editor of BSS and former president of BFUJ Abul Kalam Azad, Director General of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) Shaha Alamgir, Principal Information Officer (PIO) Quamrun Nahar, secretary general of BFUJ Shaban Mahmud, president of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Abu Jafor Surja and general secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury were present at the function.
The prime minister initiated the trust fund in 2014 by giving at amount of Taka 5 crore as seed money, which later drew more money from a number of private media houses raising the fund to Taka 15 crore in the last four years.
Earlier at a function on September 19, 2018, the premier had given assurance of providing Taka 20 crore more to the fund of the trust.
