PM inaugurates 2nd Kanchpur Bridge

Risingbd Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday inaugurated the second Kanchpur Bridge on Shitalakkhya River to reduce bottlenecks on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.

The prime minister opened the four-lane bridge through a video conference from her Ganabhaban residence this morning.

Alongside the four-lane bridge, she also inaugurated a four-lane flyover at Bhulta and a railway overpass at Latifpur on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway through the video conference.

The 400-metre long and 18-metre wide bridge is expected to reduce traffic congestion on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway significantly once the bridge is opened to public, according to officials of the Road Transport and Highways Division (RTHD).

Japanese contractors Obayshi Corporation, Shimizu Corporation, JFE Engineer Corporation, and IHI Infra Systems Company Limited started construction of the second Kanchpur Bridge along with the second Meghna and second Meghna-Gumti bridges on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in January 2016.

The construction work of second Kanchpur Bridge was completed nearly four months ahead of the June 2019 deadline.
