PM’s flight glitch: 3 Biman staffers summoned

Staff Correspondent: A Dhaka court has summoned three staffers of Biman Bangladesh Airlines to appear before the court on June 17 in the prosecution case filed over Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's flight in 2016.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Subrata Ghosh Shuvo passed the order on Tuesday.

On Sunday, Inspector Mahbub Alam of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Police, filed the case.

The three accused are engineer officer Najmul Haq, junior technician Shah Alam and technician Siddiqur Rahman.

Earlier on December 6 last year, Inspector Mahbub Alam sought withdrawal from the main case for these three people and permission of filing a prosecution case in this regard.

On April 4, Dhaka Metropolitan Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah accepted the petition and acquitted all the 11 accused in the case.

The other eight staffers are: SM Rokonuzzaman, Samiul Haque, Lutfor Rahman, Milon Chandra Biswas, Zakir Hossain of Biman's engineering and technical department, Debesh Chowdhury, chief engineer (production), SA Siddique, chief engineer (quality assurance) and Billal Hossain, principal engineer.

The VVIP flight carrying Hasina made an emergency landing on November 27, 2016 at Ashgabat International Airport in Turkmenistan after a loose nut caused engine oil leakage, and oil pressure loss in engine no-1 of the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.

On December 20 night last year, Wing Commander (retd) MM Asaduzzaman, director of engineering and material management of Biman, filed the case against nine employees under the Special Powers Act with Airport Police Station. Two more Biman officials were arrested later.
