Patuakhali’s Maksuda receives Tk 9 lakh

Staff Correspondent: Maksuda Begum of Patuakhali’s Baufal upazila received Tk 9 lakh as she was undergone wrong treatment at Niramoy Clinic of the upazila.

Fake doctor Ranjan Das paid Tk 5 lakh while the clinic authority gave Tk 4 lakh in line with a High Court (HC) order.

Advocate Nazrul Islam, lawyer of the defendants revealed the payment to the bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice AKM Zahirul Hoque as an affidavit.

Maksuda’s Barrister Imran A Siddique confirmed over receiving the payment to Risingbd on Thursday.

The HC bench fixed May 27 for the further order in the case, he added.

Earlier on December 13, the HC bench ordered the fake doctor Ranjan Das and the clinic authority to pay Maksuda Tk 9 lakh.

The court also asked Patuakhali Civil Surgeon to inspect the matter.

The HC came up with the order as Maksuda filed a petition with it seeking Tk 28.63 lakh as compensation of her wrong treatment.

In March, 2017, Maksuda gave birth to a baby daughter at Niramoy Clinic in Baufal through a caesarean section, and after a month, she felt severe pain in the abdomen.

A daily newspaper the published a report in this connection on July 22, 2017.

Maksuda’s digestive tract was infected as the cotton remained in the abdomen for a long time, the report said, quoting a doctor of the hospital.

On August 23, 2017, the same bench issued a suo moto (voluntary) rule following the report headlined “Sare tin mas por pet theke ber holo goj (cotton brought out from abdomen after three and a half months)”.

According to the report, the cotton was brought out from the abdomen of Maksuda Begum, 25, wife of Russel Sardar from Bilbilas village under Baufal upazila, through an operation on July 12 after she was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition.
