PayPal service Xoom launched in Bangladesh

Staff Correspondent: PayPal, world's most popular online money transfer service, was launched formally in Bangladesh on Thursday.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, prime minister's adviser for information and communication technology, inaugurated the service through a programme titled PayPal+Xoom Service and Freelance Conference at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BCCI) in Dhaka.

State minister for ICT division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Bangladesh Bank governor Fazle Kabir, ICT division secretary Subir Kishore Chowdhury and others attended the programme.

PayPal, which is available in more than 200 markets around the world, enables its account holders to receive money in more than 100 currencies, withdraw funds in 56 currencies and hold PayPal account balances in 25 currencies.

The Bangladesh government had long been negotiating with PayPal to launch its services in the country.

Customers can receive the service from the nine commercial banks, including Sonali Bank, Rupali Bank, Social Islami Bank and City Bank.
