'Peaceful voting system should be introduced'

Staff Correspondent: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda directed the election officers so that voters can cast their votes peacefully.

The distance between political parties and Election Commission should be removed, he said.

The CEC made the assertion while inaugurating a training workshop at Election Training Institute (ETI) in capital's Agargaon on Sunday.

Nurul Huda said, "Various types of requests come from political parties including booths during election. Some of them are logical. However, we have to work protesting right of voters not the political parties. Steps should be taken so that voters can cast their votes peacefully".

He also said, "We have to come out from previous system. Security is needed for the sake of ballot box. But, Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) doesn't require that. Election results can be published through the modern system EVM."

If political parties gave their consent then Election Commission can provide training to the polling agents, he added.

Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed and ETI Director General Mostafa Faruq spoke on the occasion.
