Staff Correspondent: New Bangla calendar year-1426 will start on Sunday (April 14). People are flocking to village home to celebrate Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla calendar, as it is public day.
Since Friday noon, city dwellers flocked in their hundreds to bus terminals at Jatrabari, Gulistan, Sayedabad to leave Dhaka for village home taking the advantage of the weekend holidays.
Passengers, however, alleged that extra fare was being charged due to excessive crowds.
Neyamul Karim, who was heading towards Maoa by a Elish Paribabahan bus from Gulishan, said, “I’m going home as it is holiday on Sunday (Pahela Baishakh). I remain busy on working days. So I thought to visit home on the day. But extra fare is being charged.”
Huge gatherings were also seen at different bus counters including Royal, Shyamoli, Hanif, Dream Line, Parjatak, Sakura, Star Line and Sugandha at Sayedabad.
Hafizur Rahman Sifat, who was heading to Sonargaon by Gozaria Paribahan, said, “Tk 120 was charged while regular fare is Tk 80.”
